Make sure you get your forms and money in right away so that the prizes can be awarded. Photos from the Thursday night classes can be seen on our Facebook page or on our Facebook group. The group is reserved for club members only, if you would like to join the group please send me a request. If you search Google or Facebook for South Delta Kyokushin Karate both results should appear.

Summer Camp 2011

Post By robs in Dojo Events

Hey everyone, it's been a week since Summer Camp ended so I thought I had better write a little about it! Had a great time as usual (if hot, sweaty, dusty and exhausting workouts are your idea of fun!) and met up with a lot of old friends and even made some new ones. This year Campground South Delta was occupied by Sempai Mike, Sempai Greg, Sempai, Daryl, Sempai Scott, Sempai Georgina, myself, Geoff, Dave, Dita, Casandra and Cynthia. Sensei Les and Gwen stopped by to visit on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and to have some lunch with us. Speaking of lunch, our campsite was blessed to have fantastic meals prepared by Greg, Cynthia and Georgina...roughing it never tasted so good. The weekend was packed full of training and instruction starting on Friday night and ending on Monday morning and once again was highlighted by the Yudansha Kumite held on Sunday afternoon. As most of you know the Yudansha Kumite, or Black Belt fights, are the final test for those that have been grading all year for Shodan or above and year after year it never disappoints for sheer excitement and inspiration. I have started a Facebook page called South Delta Dojo and have posted photos from the camp on it. I will be updating it with club events and photos so be sure to check in regularly. You should be able to Google "South Delta Dojo Facebook" or copy and paste the following address into your browsers search box to access it. http://www.facebook.com/pages/South-Delta-Dojo/194346513959567. Some day I might even figure out how to post a link to it from our website.
See everyone in September.
Osu, Rob.

28th Canadian Kyokushin Karate Championships May 7th 2011

Post By robs in IKOKC Events

The South Delta Karate Club was well represented at this years Canadian Championships, from competitors to volunteers to coaches and officials we pretty well covered it all. While our number of competitors were down a bit this year our results and spirit were not. Stephanie placed first in her non-contact division and second in her kata division, Keanna placed first in her non-contact division and also participated in kata and both Kai and Aden placed equal thirds in their non-contact division. Also participating in the tournament and gaining great experience were Duncan, Cassie, Morgan and James who all took part in their respective kata divisions. Helping out as volunteers this year were Gord, Rick, Maya and James who worked tirelessly throughout the day doing jobs such as time keeping, ring marshaling, padding up the kids and just generally helping organize the chaos. Without the help of all the volunteers this tournament would not be the success that it is and the tournament committee really appreciates the work that they do. Helping Sempai Mike coach our team this year were Jeff and Kyle; they kept our team relaxed, focused and inspired throughout the day and the results reflect that. Our tournament ring officials this year were Sempai Greg who worked as both a referee and corner judge and Sempai Daryl and Rob who both worked as corner judges. The tournament lunch was once again provided by our dojo with Kyle and his parents Al and Dawn doing a wonderful job in providing us with more than enough food and drink to keep us going for the day. They have been looking after this for few years now and there is nothing but positive comments from everyone about how it gets better and better each year. On behalf of Sensei Les, Gwen and our other Sempais a great big thank you to all those that participated as mentioned above and to those who also took the time out of their Saturday to come watch and cheer on all the fighters and participants throughout the day. Click on our Links button and go to the IKOK-C website and Facebook page to view photos from the tournament.
